Kimba Goes to Paris

Kimba the White Lion and Speed Racer were my first introduction to Japanese Anime which is so wildly popular now. What's so great about Pokemon? Can anyone tell me? My nephews have trading cards and games. Are they cute? What is Pokemon teaching our kids anyway- how to capture crystals or exotic animals and make them fight for fun? I never really got into gaming, probably because I read so much. That said however, anime is entertaining as a popular art form, and I really enjoyed Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away.
